Ethanol-Free Fuel Myths

Short version: our Premium is 0% ethanol (ethanol-free). That matters for many boats on Rice Lake, small engines, and classic cars that sit between drives. Here are common myths — answered plainly, for Ontario drivers and cottagers.

Myth: “All pump gas is the same”

Not here. Regular and diesel are stocked as usual; Premium is labeled 0% ethanol on our site and at the bar. If you need ethanol-free for a marine tank or a vintage engine, ask for Premium and confirm the 0% ethanol note.

Myth: “Ethanol-free is only for race cars”

Boaters, lawn equipment, generators, and classic vehicles often prefer ethanol-free because ethanol can attract moisture and is harder on some older fuel systems and small engines. We stock it because local Rice Lake and Hiawatha Line traffic actually asks for it.

Myth: “You can tell ethanol content from the octane number alone”

Octane and ethanol content are different. Higher octane does not automatically mean ethanol-free. At The Old Railroad Stop, check the 0% ethanol callout under Premium — that is the signal, not the octane alone.

Myth: “If it is not ethanol-free, it will ruin every modern car”

Most modern road cars are designed for the ethanol blend sold as Regular. The differentiator is for equipment and vehicles that prefer or require ethanol-free — boats, classics, and some small engines — not a scare story about every daily driver.

Myth: “You have to drive far for ethanol-free”

Fill Premium here at 341 Hiawatha Line, Hiawatha First Nation, ON (north shore of Rice Lake). Store hours 7:00 am–9:00 pm daily (closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day). Same building as the restaurant next door, which is a separate business.
